There has been a significant amount of M&A activity within the broadband fibre network space in recent weeks. In addition to City Fibre's £29m acquisition of Entanet, there have been numerous other fundraisings. These are largely to facilitate M&A or the organic fibre rollout. Interestingly, the fundraisings have been from very diverse sources, from the main market through to community-led or government-backed schemes.
The UK continues to lag many other nations with regard to its fibre broadband coverage. As a result, I would expect to see this remain a hot space for M&A as the key players seek to expand and grab space in this key area of technology infrastructure.
July 2017’s corporate activity digest A notable rise in fundraising activity drove a busy July period for corporate activity within the UK Megabuyte universe, with 31 deals. Fibre networks was a particular hot spot, with new cash/debt being raised by CityFibre (£200m), Truespeed (£75m), Community Fibre (£11m), and Hyperoptic (£100m).
